“A detachment of native police under the command of Sub-Inspector Eglinton, have started out for the Burke river, to be stationed somewhere near Goodwood station. This will be hailed with joy by the outside settlers, especially by those plucky pioneers who have taken out their wives and families to this “Far West.” The Diamantina must now be considered as quite inside when things have arrived at the state of civilisation they have on the Burke and Herbert.”
